my approach to psychotherapy

What do I do?
I create a space for you to uncover your true self, that which is authentic and unique to you, unencumbered by judgements that stand in the way of growth--a space in which you are free to be and become yourself.  I help you develop an ongoing relationship to this self in the midst of the ups and downs of life. Within this relationship to self, you live aligned with your values and you find a consistent connection to your inner world—the source of your aliveness.

I draw from a variety of theoretical viewpoints and therapeutic approaches to understand and illuminate a person’s dilemmas.

I offer possible ways of looking at your situations and responses—and you have the right to decide what is true and what is useful for you.
My belief about this work is that people grow and change best in an atmosphere of warm and compassionate connection. The journey of healing is the journey of life. It’s never too late to begin.
What will we do together in session?
I find that it is useful to explore everyday life together, because it is in daily life that our struggles make themselves visible. It is in daily life that we see our past experiences in action, as well as the beliefs we derive from those experiences, and our vision of the possibilities that exist for ourselves made manifest. And so it is in daily life that we begin to make the changes that allow us to grow beyond limitations.

I will offer ideas and suggest perspectives that are based on my expertise and experience.  Together, you and I will create the ways of being—the external tools and the internal attitudes—that you need to live a more empowered life.

I also hold a space of accountability as you work through processes that lead to meaningful choices.

There are no perfect answers. We can learn to cultivate self acceptance, make kind choices for ourselves and heal the wounds that hold us back. It takes time and courage to open the doors to growth. Therapy offers a chance to experience guidance and support on the journey towards becoming your self.

All this and more, I bring to your door. I look forward to embarking together.
